An 11-year-old girl has died after the vehicle she was travelling in crashed and became submerged in a dam in New South Wales.

Emergency services were called to the scene on the Bruxner Highway near Tenterfield in the New England region at about 3:30 p.m. on Monday following reports of a serious crash.
Police said a black SUV struck a tree before leaving the roadway and entering the dam, where it slipped beneath the water’s surface.
The young passenger was pulled from the submerged vehicle and treated by paramedics but was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver, a 68-year-old woman, was also rescued and treated for injuries. She was transported to Tenterfield Hospital in stable condition.
Police have established a crime scene, and crash investigators are working to determine the circumstances of the incident.
A report will be prepared for the Coroner’s Office.
