Serenity Brown Death: Trinel Thornhill named as suspect in Toronto High Park murder

TORONTO, ONTARIO – Toronto police have identified the victim in a tragic High Park homicide as 21-year-old Serenity Brown, a young woman originally from London, Ontario, and formerly of the Oneida Nation of the Thames.

The incident occurred on Friday, September 5, just before 6 p.m., when officers were called to the area of Glenlake and High Park avenues, north of Bloor Street West, for a medical emergency. Upon arrival, police located Brown inside a vehicle suffering from critical injuries. She was rushed to hospital, but despite emergency efforts, she was pronounced deceased. Her death marks Toronto’s 30th homicide of 2025.

According to Canadian Press, Brown moved to Toronto on her own at the age of 18 and had been living in the city ever since. Friends and community members have described her as an ambitious young woman whose life was tragically cut short.

On Monday, September 8, investigators announced the arrest of Trinel Thornhill, 48, of Toronto. He has been charged with second-degree murder in connection with Brown’s death and is scheduled to appear in bail court on Tuesday morning.

Toronto police confirmed that Brown and Thornhill were “known to one another,” though the exact nature of their relationship has not been disclosed.

The investigation remains ongoing as authorities work to determine the full circumstances surrounding the case.
