It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Captain Jason Stock, a lifelong fisherman and devoted guide whose love of the water and passion for teaching others made a lasting impact on the Florida fishing community. Jason, who spent his life fishing both professionally and personally, passed away by suicide, leaving behind his wife Heather, and a legacy of adventure, mentorship, and inspiration that will be remembered by family, friends, and countless anglers whose lives he touched.

Born with an innate connection to the sea, Jason began working at his family’s local kayak shop, Canoe Country Outfitters, at a young age. It was there that his lifelong love for fishing from a kayak took root, eventually leading him to a professional career spanning more than 15 years. Over the course of his career, Jason became widely recognized in the fishing world, competing in the FLW Redfish Tour, winning numerous local kayak tournaments, and participating in billfishing tournaments across Florida. His expertise and success earned him features on the covers of fishing magazines, including Florida SportsmanSaltwater SportsmanKayak AnglerLouisiana Sportsman, and Waterline Magazine.

Captain Jason Stock’s approach to fishing was marked not only by skill but by his desire to share his knowledge with others. For many years, he specialized in teaching anglers to target Snook, Redfish, Trout, and Tarpon using artificial lures from a kayak—a method that allowed anglers to approach fish stealthily and enjoy the peaceful, immersive experience of the water. His patience, guidance, and calm demeanor made him an exceptional teacher, able to accommodate every skill level, from first-time anglers to seasoned veterans.

In recent years, Jason expanded his offerings to include charters aboard his 26-foot Yellowfin, taking clients offshore and nearshore to target a wide variety of species such as Snapper, Grouper, Permit, Tarpon, Kingfish, and Tuna. His “Bucket List Charters” allowed anglers to pursue species they had always dreamed of catching, and Jason took immense pride in seeing the excitement on their faces when a prized fish finally took the hook. His philosophy was simple: the joy of fishing was as much in the experience as in the catch, and he dedicated himself to ensuring every trip was memorable and meaningful.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Jason was known for his warmth, humor, and generosity. Those who fished with him remember a man who could make anyone feel at ease, whether guiding a solo angler on a quiet morning kayak trip or leading a full offshore charter with friends and family. He shared his knowledge freely, cared deeply for the sustainability of Florida’s fisheries, and participated in programs to tag and release fish responsibly, collect DNA samples, and contribute to research that would preserve the sport for future generations.

Captain Jason Stock’s life was defined by his love of the water, his dedication to his clients and family, and the joy he found in sharing his passion with others. Though his passing is a profound loss, his legacy will live on in the countless memories he created on the water and in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to fish alongside him.

Jason is survived by his loving wife, Heather, who continues to carry forward his mission of guiding, teaching, and inspiring anglers of all ages. While his absence is deeply felt, Captain Jason Stock’s spirit—adventurous, generous, and boundless—will continue to sail with every cast, every trip, and every story shared about the man who truly lived for the sea.
