Rising gun violence in Wilmington

Leggett’s death pushes Wilmington’s fatal shooting toll for 2025 above last year’s count at this same point. As of mid-October 2024, 14 people had been fatally shot in the city, according to a Delaware Online database. So far in 2025, 16 people have been killed by gunfire out of 71 total shooting victims citywide.
Past criminal history

Court records show that four years ago, Leggett was arrested and charged in connection with two violent carjackings that occurred in Claymont during September and October 2021.

In one incident, two suspects armed with a handgun assaulted a 52-year-old man at an Exxon gas station on Philadelphia Pike before stealing his Acura SUV. Weeks later, a 73-year-old man was attacked in the parking lot of a Food Lion on the same roadway and robbed of his Hyundai Sonata.

Following his arrest, Leggett faced multiple felony charges, including two counts of first-degree robbery, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, and second-degree assault.
