Further details released after 27-year-old Steven Bradley died by suicide near the South Kaibab Trailhead, Grand Canyon

On Saturday, September 7, at approximately 12:40 p.m., the Grand Canyon Regional Communications Center received a distressing report of a vehicle with a single occupant that had gone over the rim near the South Kaibab Trailhead.

Park rangers were dispatched immediately and, upon arrival, located the vehicle approximately 300 feet below the rim. The body of the occupant was recovered with the aid of a National Park Service helicopter and transported to the rim before being transferred to the Coconino County Medical Examiner’s Office for further examination.

The individual has since been identified as Steven “Drew” Bradley, 27, of Federal Heights, Colorado. His sudden passing has brought profound sadness to his family, friends, and community.

The National Park Service, in coordination with the Coconino County Medical Examiner’s Office, is conducting an investigation into the circumstances of the incident. At this time, no additional details have been released.
