ADRIAN, Mich. — The Adrian College community is mourning the sudden passing of Chris Stansik, a standout alumnus and member of the Adrian College Athletic Hall of Fame. Stansik, who was inducted into the Hall of Fame in September 2024, died unexpectedly, leaving behind teammates, friends, and family shocked and grieving his loss. He was 34.
Stansik, a 2012 graduate, made his mark on Adrian College hockey history as a member of the NCAA men’s hockey team. He will forever be remembered as the player who scored the program’s first-ever goal in the opening game of the 2007–08 inaugural season.
During his career, Stansik became one of the Bulldogs’ most accomplished athletes. He was a four-time All-Conference selection and earned All-American honors twice, including First Team recognition in 2012. Over four seasons, he appeared in 112 games, recording 33 goals and 102 assists for a total of 135 points. Fourteen of his goals came on the power play, and one was short-handed.
Stansik’s achievements extended beyond individual accolades. With him on the roster, Adrian won four Regular Season Conference Championships and three Conference Tournament titles, while also making one NCAA Tournament appearance. Though sidelined by injury during the 2010–11 campaign, he remained part of the team that finished as NCAA Division III Runner-Up.
Even after graduation, Stansik’s name remained prominent in Adrian’s record books. He ranked sixth in program history for total assists and assists per game, while also holding top-10 placements in games played and single-season assists.
Away from the rink, Stansik lived in Livonia, Michigan, where he built a life as an entrepreneur. Known for his quick wit and easygoing personality, he enjoyed playing cards, golfing, and spending time with his beloved dog, Snuffleuphagus.
His Hall of Fame induction in September 2024 was a proud moment for Stansik and the Adrian community. The ceremony celebrated not only his historic accomplishments on the ice but also his enduring influence on the program and the generations of players who followed.
In the wake of his death, tributes have poured in from teammates, coaches, and friends, who remember him not only as an exceptional athlete but also as a loyal friend and spirited competitor.
The Adrian College Athletic Department released a statement saying, “Chris Stansik was more than a record-holder and Hall of Famer — he was family. His impact on Adrian hockey and his memory will remain with us always.”
