Bianca Romero Obituary, Death; Driver charged with intoxication manslaughter in crash that killed couple near downtown, HPD says
A woman has been charged following a deadly crash that resulted in the deaths of two individuals along the Katy Freeway shortly after 1 a.m. on Friday, according to police reports.
The accused, Ariel Perry Stewart, 21, faces two counts of intoxication manslaughter with a vehicle, as stated by the Houston Police Department. Authorities report that Stewart was driving a Tesla at high speed with a passenger when she collided with a Nissan at 2100 Katy Freeway, igniting a fire.
The Tesla continued its trajectory and ultimately crashed into the barriers of the freeway before coming to a halt, as per police accounts. The incident led to the closure of all inbound lanes of I-10 at the Taylor Street exit for several hours.
An HPD lieutenant informed ABC13 that the victims in the Nissan were a couple who had just finished their workout at the gym. According to police, the Nissan was still engulfed in flames when emergency responders arrived at the location. The passenger in the Tesla, a 23-year-old woman, was transported to the hospital, as reported by HPD.
Glendy Romero shared with ABC13 that her sister, Bianca Romero, was among the victims. The identity of the deceased male is awaiting confirmation from the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
